Siljanovska Davkova - Presker: Macedonian EU integration should be based on criteria applied for other hopefuls
- Siljanovska Davkova reaffirmed the position that the country’s EU integration process should follow the merit-based principle with consisted application of the Copenhagen criteria.
Skopje, 7 November 2024 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met with Slovenian Ambassador Gregor Presker, her office said Thursday.
Talks focused on sharing views on the country’s EU accession process with the President stressing that it is necessary the Macedonian EU integration to be based on the criteria applied for other candidate countries.
In this context, Siljanovska Davkova reaffirmed the position that the country’s EU integration process should follow the merit-based principle with consisted application of the Copenhagen criteria.
In the meeting, the interlocutors expressed readiness to further boost bilateral cooperation and for joint regional performance for the purpose of economic prosperity and tackling of global challenges, said the press release.
It was concluded that Slovenia is one of the most important trade partners and investors in the country and that economic cooperation potentials aren’t fully exhausted. To that end, to intensify economic cooperation should be one of the main priorities of the two countries in the future.
The interlocutors also reaffirmed the commitment to bolster cooperation also within international organizations and to promote the common values of democracy, peace and sustainable development on the global stage, the press release stated.
