Skopje, 7 November 2024 (MIA) – DUI leader Ali Ahmeti met with EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas at the party headquarters in Tetovo.
Ahmeti told Rokas that DUI is a party that doesn’t question its Euro-Atlantic commitment and orientation “not even for a moment”, DUI said in a press release.
“We believe the EU integration process has no alternative and DUI is fully supporting the negotiations to continue and reforms to implement without any delay and with political consensus,” said Ahmeti.
Regarding the Ohrid Agreement, Ahmeti recalled that the EU and the United States are guarantors of the peace treaty, saying that inter-ethnic relations “are overwhelmed with the government’s careless steps involving Albanian language, ethnic origin, equal and adequate representation, etc.”
“North Macedonia and Macedonians haven’t lost anything from having equal rights with Albanians and the country is not at all threatened with the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement. Political dialogue in the country must respect the election legitimacy of the legitimate representatives of ethnic communities, because it enables stability, security and social cohesion,” said the press release.
Ahmeti, it added, reiterated that the solution to “this difficult situation” is joint parliamentary and local elections in October 2025.
