Probe launched into Mickoski's allegations he had been followed

Skopje, 27 December 2024 (MIA) — The Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a probe into allegations by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski that the previous government, while VMRO-DPMNE was an opposition party, had been following him as the supposed leader of a paramilitary group, the PPO said in a press release.

PM Mickoski was answering questions in Parliament on Thursday when he said he had been followed while he was leading the largest opposition party.

Earlier on Friday, the PPO informed the prime minister that a prosecutor would be investigating his allegatons, the release said.

Answering a reporter's question on Friday, Mickoski said files had been created about him at the beginning of 2020, which was an election year, just so he would be trailed.

"Imagine, one of the security agencies — I will not say which one it is for justified reasons — has this information that I had inspired, financed and organized these armed terrorist structures, yet at the same time did not inform the Interior Ministry," the PM said.

He said the reason the security agency did not share this information with the Interior Ministry was that the caretaker interior minister at the start of 2020 was VMRO-DPMNE's Nakje Chulev.

"I leave the rest to the prosecution," Mickoski said. mr/
