Skopje, 27 December 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday that most retailers are complying with the order to restore product prices to the level before the hike, after the adoption of the 'New Year's consumer basket' measure as citizens alerted.
He told journalists that the situation is being monitored and any deviant behavior by retailers will be followed by measures. He reminded that limiting prices by a Government-decision is always possible.
"This morning I spoke with the minister of labor and economy, but the previous day or two I have been receiving information by the State Market Inspectorate that a large number of retailers are restoring the prices to the level of before the hike. They respect the warning we sent. In the upcoming period I expect this to continue, despite the regular and intense monitoring by the State Market Inspectorate, and if there are any deviant behaviors by retailers, measures will be adopted. The latest measure at the Government's disposal is to again limit prices, but we are currently aware that most retailers respect the measure after the warning," Mickoski said at the presentation of the results of the work of the Ministry of Interior.
After complaints from citizens about the price hike of basic food products that were not included in the 'New Year's consumer basket' measure, the PM on Wednesday announced a robust government reaction in the coming period, and Economy Minister Besar Durmishi informed that the State Market Inspectorate has been monitoring prices for the last three months and after analysis are done, decisions will be made on the adoption of more rigorous measures. ssh/sk/
