Prices of products included in ‘New Year's consumer basket’ measure down by 10 percent, says Minister

Skopje, 20 December 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Economy and Labour Besar Durmishi visited stores in Skopje on Friday, following the beginning of the Government’s “New Year's consumer basket” measure on Dec. 15, and assessed that the prices of products have dropped by “10 percent and more” due to the measure.

The Minister said the list of products included in the measure now stands at over 1100.

“We saw that the products that are on the list are marked and have had their prices reduced by 10 percent and more. I am glad that the list of products has grown to include over 1100 products,” Durmishi said.

The Minister urged vendors to respect the measure and called on the citizens to report any irregularities.

“This measure was at the initiative of vendors, producers and distributors, supported by the Government. The State Market Inspectorate is on the ground to see whether it is being implemented. I urge all vendors to respect it while it is in place until January 15, 2025. The citizens are the biggest inspectors, if they notice price manipulation they should report it,” Durmishi said.

The head of the State Market Inspectorate, Vlatko Stojkoski, who accompanied the Minister, said the Inspectorate hasn’t registered any significant irregularities.

“The past five days, the Inspectorate has registered minor irregularities related to the marking of the products and minor corrections in the prices of two or three commercial entities. We haven’t registered any significant irregularities. I can conclude that everyone involved in the process is complying with what has been agreed,” Stojkoski said.

The “New Year’s consumer basket” measure began on December 15 and will remain in place until January 15.
