Over 100 electric buses for public transportation expected next year, says Mickoski

Skopje, 24 November 2024 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects some 100-120 electric buses to be procured by next summer or next autumn for public transportation in cities across the country.

“Currently, we’re scanning the market analysing what is the quickest period to order from 100 to 120 electric buses and also the payment manner, a certain grace period and several semi-annual installments so as not to burden the budget’s liquidity. They will be distributed to all municipalities having public transportation alongside the necessary infrastructure, such as electric bus chargers,” Mickoski said Sunday.

A bulk of the electric buses will be part of the City of Skopje’s public transportation, he added.

On the issue involving Skopje’s JSP public transport company, which reduced the number of buses operating in the capital a few days ago, Mickoski said the City of Skopje is in charge of JSP.

On Thursday, at an emergency session, the Government decided to allow the City of Skopje to borrow fuel from the national reserves in order to deal with the Public Transport Enterprise’s (JSP) fuel shortage.

“We borrowed JSP 250 tons of fuel. The City of Skopje’s request for emergency procurement will be processed through the Public Procurement Bureau. Now, I expect them to consolidate,” he told reporters.
