Mickoski: We'll do our EU reform agenda homework first, then up to EU whether it bilateralizes accession process

Skopje, 18 January 2026 (MIA) — Answering reporters' questions on the country's EU perspective, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told reporters Sunday that his government's goal was to first do its homework related to the EU reform agenda and then let the EU decide whether it would bilateralize the country's accession process.

"Macedonia's European integration path is unavoidably linked to the will of 27 member states, one of which is Bulgaria. You know that we have a problem with them, but our goal is finish our homework, prepare, complete all open issues related to the reform agenda and close all the reforms we have planned to close," PM Mickoski said.

"After we do all that, we will leave it to the 27 member states to decide whether they will bilateralize this process or whether it will be based on the criteria that was set for all countries that have so far joined the EU," he said.

Through Jan. 23, Mickoski will attend World Economic Forum's annual gathering in Davos, Switzerland, held under the motto "In the Spirit of Dialogue". mr/
