Blazhe Koneski Elementary reopens after new addition built

Skopje, 18 January 2026 (MIA) — Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska and Aerodrom Mayor Dejan Miteski attended Sunday the reopening of the newly reconstructed Blazhe Koneski Elementary in Michurin.

For the first time in 70 years, the school has gotten additional classrooms, offices and common areas providing more space for student development and better working conditions for teachers.

Wishing teachers and students much success, PM Mickoski said the school reconstruction was one of many school and preschool construction projects his government had completed over the past year and a half.

"Aerodrom's Blazhe Koneski Elementary has the perfect conditions for learning," he said.

"When I return from my official trip to Davos, we will also open the renovated Kiril Pejchinovikj High School in Tetovo," he added.

He also recalled that his government had completed a number of construction projects on sports gymnasiums, boulevards, highways and railways, delivering on election promises as much as possible.

Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska said the new addition to Blazhe Koneski Elementary would raise the quality of education and solve the problem of space.

"We continue with investments, both in this school and in other elementaries and high schools across the country," Janevska said, adding that over 160 projects were planned for 2026 to provide municipalities with higher quality education.

Aerodrom Mayor Dejan Miteski said the Blazhe Koneski Elementary reconstruction project, implemented over the past 16 months, was worth over Mden 200 million. He said not only did the school get new classrooms but also "a new, higher standard for all students who will study here."

"Blazhe Koneski is getting 16 new classrooms and new equipment, completely in line with all standards and adapted to children according to their age; an elevator for children with special needs as well as a special restroom for them; new restrooms for all students and new conditions that will make it so that future generations, too, can enjoy the educational process," Mitevski said.

The newly built addition to Blazhe Koneski Elementary has 16 modern classrooms, a library, an auditorium, an elevator, a kitchen, a cafeteria, an energy-efficient facade and it is fully accessible to all students.

The project's second phase, valued at Mden 253 million, is already under way and includes the construction of a sports gymnasium, 10 new classrooms, an IT classroom, playgrounds, a new parking lot and another new library. mr/
