6th SaxClar international festival begins

Skopje, 16 December 2024 (MIA) — The 6th SaxClar International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival will be held at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence on Dec. 16-17.

 

The festival begins at 8 pm with a gala concert featuring performances by renowned Macedonian clarinetists and saxophonists with piano accompaniment by Marija Vrshkova and Maja Popovikj Karaivanova.

 

Performers at the Monday concert include Stojan Dimov, Zdravko Angelov, Arben Aslanaj, Anel Selim, Teodor Ljushkoski, Sashko Temelkoski, Spire Jovanovski, Goran Trajkovski and Ninoslav Dimov.

 

Saxophone quartet SaxClar will give a concert Tuesday. The ensemble consists of Gjorgji Dimovski on soprano saxophone, Goran Trajkovski on alto saxophone, Grigori Angelov on tenor saxophone and Ninoslav Dimov on baritone saxophone.

 

The SaxClar festival was founded in 2017 by Macedonian saxophonist Ninoslav Dimov. The aim of the festival is to promote clarinet and saxophone music and encourage cooperation between clarinetists and saxophonists from both the region and the world.

 

Over the years, the annual event has incorporated performances by many renowned world musicians, including German saxophonist Detlef Bensmann, German trombonist Matthias Müller, French clarinetist Jean-Michel Bertelli, Slovenian saxophonist and professor of saxophone at the Ljubljana Academy of Music Matjaz Drevensek, Serbian clarinetist Ognjen Popovic, Serbian clarinetist and professor of clarinet at the Belgrade Faculty of Music Veljko Klenkovski, and Croatian saxophonist and vice-dean at the Zagreb Music Academy Dragan Sremec. mr/
