President Siljanovska Davkova visits Red Cross

Skopje, 26 July 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova visited the Red Cross on Friday in honor of July 26-Day of Remembrance and Solidarity following the 1963 catastrophic earthquake in Skopje.

President Siljanovska Davkova attended a presentation on the Red Cross’ activities during the 1963 earthquake in Skopje, and met with volunteers and the organization's management. She also got to see some of their activities at the Blood Donation Center, Center for Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support, and Care Center, the President’s Office said in a press release.

During the meeting she was informed about the organization’s capacities, growing trend for volunteering, and initiatives aimed at promoting solidarity and humanitarian volunteering, as a sustainable model with numerous individual and collective benefits.

Red Cross volunteers presented the regular tasks aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, protecting citizens' lives and health, and improving overall society. They also shared their personal commitments, which would act as an inspiration and incentive to join the Red Cross.

"Siljanovska Davkova shared her experience with the Skopje earthquake and the days that followed, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and contribution of volunteers, united with desire to offer help and support. She pointed out that civil society is strengthened through volunteer work, and that it should be incorporated into the education system," the press release reads.

The President filled out a membership form for the Red Cross, as one of the largest and most important volunteering organizations, and emphasized her continued unreserved support for humanism as the highest human value and top priority of every society. ssh/ik/
