Minchev: Investment in knowledge and competence builds strong institutions and sustainable European future

Skopje, 21 April 2026 (MIA) - Building a professional and efficient public administration aligned with European standards is one of Macedonia's key priorities on the path to European Union membership, said Minister of Public Administration Goran Minchev in his address at the ministerial conference "From Reform to Readiness: Building Leadership and Talent for EU Accession", held within the Berlin Processin Budva on Tuesday.
Minister Minchev said the country is already implementing comprehensive and systemic changes focused on building a professional, efficient and non-partisan public administration aligned with European standards, the Ministry of Public Administration said in a press release.
"The road to the European Union is not only about law harmonization but functional institutions and an administration that delivers results," said Minchev.
He added that reforms are based on strengthening leadership, strong legal framework and accelerating digital transformation, highlighting the adoption of the new laws on administrative officers, public sector employees, training and vocational development, as well as drafting the law on senior managers.
"Investment in knowledge and competence builds strong institutions and sustainable European future," said Minchev.
Conference participants adopted joint conclusions that reflect the common vision about the future of the public administration in the region. They stressed that a professional and efficient public administration is crucial for democratic governance and EU progress, with capacity strengthening, a merit system, and political commitment as strategic priorities. Strong leadership, talent management and proper working conditions are important for effective institutions, while digital transformation and agility improve efficiency and transparency.
