Ljutkov attends opening of international tourism fair FITUR 2026 in Madrid

Skopje, 22 January 2026 (MIA) - Minister of Culture and Tourism, Zoran Ljutkov, who is leading the Macedonian delegation on a working visit to the Kingdom of Spain, attended the official opening of the 46th international tourism fair FITUR 2026 in Madrid on Thursday.

At the FITUR 2026 fair in Madrid, Macedonia is presenting itself with a national stand, promoting the country January 21-25 as an authentic tourist destination, with special emphasis on cultural tourism, eno-gastronomy tourism and sustainable forms of tourism.

“The fair, scheduled to run until January 25, was officially opened by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain. The ceremony was attended by Akan Mahmut, Tourism Coordinator in the Government of North Macedonia, and Edmond Ademi, Macedonian Ambassador to Spain. Over 9,500 companies from 156 countries are taking part in this year’s edition of the world’s leading tourism platform, which emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and digitalisation. The event attracts 155,000 accredited professionals and around 100,000 public visitors, highlighting its key role in the global tourism sector,” the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said in a press release.

During his visit to Madrid, Ljutkov met with the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Shaikha Al Nowais and Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“At the meetings, Minister Ljutkov discussed the achievements in tourism over recent years and presented the plans for the year ahead,” reads the press release.
