Skopje, 22 January 2026 (MIA) — The Health Insurance Fund remains committed to and strongly supportive of increasing health care workers' salaries to show appreciation for their hard work, HIF director Sasho Klekovski told a press conference Thursday.

To address rising costs and incentivize care, family doctors' capitation fees were increased by 33 percent over the past few years, Klekovski said. 

"This historic increase to physicians' and nurses' salaries was due to our firm belief that their work should be appropriately valued," he said.

Klekovski recalled that health care workers would get additional raises in March, as well, in line with an agreement made with the unions.

"I can say with certainty there is strong support for further salary increases to appropriately value the work of health care workers as a prerequisite for quality work. We remain committed to this," he said. mr/
