Skopje, 22 January 2026 (MIA) - Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski held a working meeting with a United Kingdom delegation, led by Ambassador Matthew Lawson, to discuss ways to improve the cooperation between Skopje and the United Kingdom.

Writing on social media, Mayor Gjorgjievski said he presented the development plans and strategic priorities of the City of Skopje based on “clear vision, concrete strategy and long-term, sustainable policies aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizens.” An accent was put on education, culture, local economic development and creative industries.

The interlocutors also discussed ways to implement joint projects and programs of mutual interest and to share positive experiences and good practices, especially in education and culture.

Talks focused on potential cooperation and support as part of the European Capital of Culture 2028 project, including international promotion and Skopje’s networking with European cities, considered a vital step toward international affirmation of the capital.

Other attendees in the meeting included Clare Sears, British Council director for the Western Balkans, Dominic Rhodes, Head of Policy and Communications at the British Embassy, and Milan Lucic, Arts Manager at the British Council’s regional office.
