Skopje, 15 January 2026 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said Thursday the call for election of a new member of the Judicial Council proposed by the Parliament would have to be repeated because of the new Law on Judicial Council.

The Parliament's Committee on Election and Appointment Issues has already voted on the election of Alban Kadriu for a new Judicial council member.

"It is up to the Committee chair and members, who are probably of the opinion to repeat the call because all new members must be elected according to the new law. The new Law on the Judicial Council changes the rules of the game," Speaker Gashi told reporters.

Regarding yesterday's leaders' meeting, the Speaker said it was constructive and whips are expected to meet in order to coordinate over a speedier adoption of laws.

"From what my colleagues who attended the meeting told me, it was very constructive. I expect whips to meet today and start the work on sooner adoption of the laws that were discussed at the meeting. This also goes for the Ombudsman, with a solution expected today or tomorrow," noted Gashi.
