Newly elected Judicial Council members to be sworn in

Skopje, 15 January 2026 (MIA) – The newly elected members of the Judicial Council of the Republic of North Macedonia, Suzana Joshevska-Anastasovska and Arlinda Kadri-Shahinovikj, are to be sworn in Thursday before Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi.

Parliament elected Monday attorney Suzana Joshevska-Anastasovska and associate professor Arlinda Kadri-Shahinovikj as new members of the Judicial Council proposed by Presdient Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova.

President Siljanovska-Davkova presented her nominees for the Judicial Council, saying she picked them according to their professionalism and competencies as well as personal credibility, noting that judicial reforms should be implemented by individuals recognized in their field of work.

According to her, bringing in qualified and competent individuals committed to the rule of law will help ensure uniform standards in judicial appointments, strengthen accountability and produce well-argued Judicial Council reports with concrete proposals for resolving problems in the judiciary, advancing reform efforts.

The Judicial Council comprises 15 members, eight chosen from judiciary, three elected by the Parliament and two nominated by the President. The President of the Supreme Court and the Minister of Justice serve as ex officio members without voting rights.

Members are appointed for a six-year term, with the possibility of one additional term.

Elected members serve six-year terms with one additional term allowed, while the mandates of the Supreme Court President and the Justice Minister end upon the termination of their functions.
