Adopting new education laws in democratic, inclusive way, Janevska says

Skopje, 24 December 2024 (MIA) — The new education laws are being adopted in a democratic, inclusive way, with input from the opposition, given the government's goal of changing the country's public education for the better on the basis of this better legislation, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska told the press Tuesday.

Minister Janevska was responding to reporters' questions following a cornerstone laying ceremony for the village of Creshevo's Naum Ohridski Elementary School gym.

Janevska said amendments by the opposition party SDSM as well as by the Worth It coalition had already been approved by Parliament's education committee during a debate aimed at "improving the wording of the laws in the students' best interest."

According to her, that a secondary education bill had been withdrawn showed "the determination of the Ministry of Education and Science to produce laws that will be widely accepted, reflecting the needs of students, teachers and society as a whole."

"Citizens should trust that the government and the ministry, as the introducers of these laws, are ready to listen to and accept constructive proposals from all stakeholders, including opposition parties, civil society organizations and the public, so ultimately we can build together the education system our children deserve," Janevska said. mr/
