Skopje, 20 November 2024 (MIA) - The Macedonian National Theatre in Skopje will stage on Wednesday the play "12", adapted and directed by Sinisha Evtimov, inspired by Reginald Rose's "12 Angry Men".
Evtimov brings together a powerful all-male cast featuring Gjorgji Jolevski, Gorast Cvetkovski, Toni Mihajlovski, Nikola Ristanovski, Blagoj Veselinov, Aleksandar Mikikj, Igor Dzhambazov, Jordan Simonov, Senko Velinov, Oliver Mitkovski, Vlado Jovanovski, Sashko Kocev, joined by Tanja Ivanovska (the Judge).
According to the Macedonian National Theatre, the play tells the story of a jury of twelve men as they deliberate the conviction or acquittal of an 18-year-old defendant based on reasonable doubt, forcing the jurors to question their own morals and values. With both the defence and the prosecution having concluded their arguments, the jury is sent to a separate room to decide whether the young man is guilty of murdering his father. What seems to be an easy decision at first, soon turns into a swirl of emotions where all flaws and prejudices of the jurors come to light. The only one who opposes the death penalty and doubts the evidence presented by the prosecution is juror #8.
Borjan Stojkov is the assistant director, the costume designer is Aleksandar Noshpal, and Martin Manev appears as both set designer and lighting designer. The music is composed by PMG Kolektiv.
The performance is suitable for those aged 16 or over, and the Macedonian National Theatre adds that it is dedicated to the late artist Mirko Popov, who left us too soon.
