Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE won’t support Speaker’s interpellation

Negotino, 21 August 2024 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE won’t support the interpellation of Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, party leader Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Wednesday.

In answer to a journalist’s question, Mickoski said he sees no reason why the party should support Gashi’s interpellation.

“The way he behaves as Speaker of Parliament, the way he leads the sessions and everything else that is happening there is a serious change compared to what his predecessor did,” Mickoski said.

According to Mickoski, “the SDSM-DUI-Levica coalition has its own motives for submitting such a motion”.

“Perhaps they find this coalition and politicians such as Artan Grubi, Talat Xhaferi, Bujar Osmani and Ali Ahmeti better than the current situation, but I don’t think this is the case and that’s why we won’t support the interpellation,” Mickoski said.

Levica MPs filed the interpellation motion at the beginning of August, referring to Gashi's work as "arbitrary, unprofessional, unconstitutional, and against the Rules of Procedures", adding that the Speaker also violated the secular state when doing a group prayer during a session observing the Srebrenica genocide.

Another reason for the interpellation is the recent incident involving Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani at the Skopje International Airport, as well as the fact that he was sworn in as Speaker in Albanian language first and not Macedonian. In addition, Levica considers that Gashi abused the Law on State Symbols by putting the NATO and EU flags in the plenary hall, and for failing to cancel the MP seat of Talat Xhaferi, who held the caretaker PM's post at the same time.

Lawmakers will discuss the motion at a session of Parliament on September 3.
