Mickoski: Let's see how new Judicial Council head does his job

Skopje, 3 January 2025 (MIA) — Asked to comment on the Judicial Council electing Friday its new president Judge Aleksandar Kambovski, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said he had no comment except it remained to be seen how Kambovski would do his job.

"I have no comment. Somehow we give comments too often, and too often pundits comment on our comments," PM Mickoski said.

"I have nothing to say or add to what is happening. Let's see how the new Judicial Council president will do his job," he said.

The Judicial Council of the Republic of North Macedonia at a session Friday elected Kambovski, a judge in the Bitola Appellate Court, president with 13 votes in favor. He had been elected Judicial Council member in June 2024.

Previously, Mickoski said the government was thinking about ways of solving the ongoing problems in the Judicial Council after the holidays.

"We are considering several moves, measures we will take after the holidays," the PM said.

"Because, despite them announcing they have overcome their phenomena of anxiety, diarrhea, cramps and fever, those processes are still ongoing with certain prosecutors and judges," he said.

"Citizens need to receive justice. We are planning this kind of activities in the near future," Mickoski said in response to a reporter's question whether the plan was to dismiss Judicial Council members elected by Parliament.

The prime minister also said at the time that some Judicial Council members no longer earned their keep, given that public trust in them was as low as two percent.

"One thing is clear — and the citizens say this unambiguously — these people with a two percent trust no longer deserve the paychecks they get," he said. mr/
