Mickoski: Government to continue supporting investments in energy and environment

Skopje, 12 September 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who attended Saturday's launch of a new cogeneration facility of company "Tessa Energy" at the Skopje Sever heating plant, said the Government will continue to support investments that mean more energy and a cleaner environment.

"This is a successful project, especially considering the challenging times ahead this winter. We had a chance to see the facility and listen to the investor's plans to enlarge. I would like to congratulate him, because this investment also contributes to lowering air pollution. The Government will continue to support such projects," said PM Mickoski.

Minister of Energy Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska said the investment resulted in a new capacity that is part of the national energy system.

"The new facility is an example that energy development must continue through investments and enlargement of the national capacities, and by creating conditions for more secure and stable electricity supply. The ministry's goal is to build an energy system that is safe, stable, modern and competitive, responding to the citizens' needs and the industry's rising needs. This means we must invest in new production facilities, but also in the grid, the infrastructure, energy efficiency, renewables, and technologies that ensure better energy management," said Minister Bozhinovska.

Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Muamet Hoxha said the Tessa Energy investment demonstrates the importance of all stakeholders in the energy sector, leading to positive changes in the environment, as well as the potential of the private sector for investments in clean technologies.

"These investments in new and more efficient technologies are important, especially when it comes to Skopje and the fight against air pollution. The heating energy will be used for 500 households and 14 institutions in the municipalities of Chair and Butel. The construction of another cogeneration plan of 10.5 MW has also been announced, further strengthening the electricity and heating systems. Such investments demonstrate that economic development, energy security, and environment protection can go hand in hand, in the citizens' benefit," said Minister Hoxha.
