Skopje, 24 October 2024 (MIA) - As part of the 3rd Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform in Riga, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi held Thursday a bilateral meeting with the First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag, Kenneth Forslund. 

Gashi extended gratitude for the support of the country's strategic goal - full-fledged membership in the European Union, and in that context, he thanked the Kingdom of Sweden for the continuous support to the democratic and economic development of the country through numerous development projects in several spheres, the Parliament said in a press release. 

First Deputy Speaker Forslund welcomed the establishment of a Cooperation Group as a counterpart to the Group of the Swedish Parliament, especially the continuation of the cooperation for democratic development between the two Parliaments, expressing confidence that the two Cooperation Groups will be a good basis to further intensify the parliamentary exchange and cooperation at all levels.

The interlocutors also discussed the new Rules of Procedure of the Parliament and agreed that the Parliament is a pillar of the democratic society and a key actor in the accession process, and therefore it is crucial to continue the intensive implementation of all activities for the Europeanization of the country and for bringing it closer to the European Union.
