Credit rating affirmation a strong signal for country to continue along same path: FinMin

Skopje, 13 September 2026 (MIA) - Republic of Macedonia has maintained the Fitch credit rating, which reaffirms the consistency of the policies we are implementing and represents a strong signal that we should continue along the same path, says Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska.

Minister Dimitrieska Kochoska says in a Facebook post that stability of public finances and stimulation of economic growth is the foundation of the Government's economic policies.

"Data shows whether these policies have an impact. I have said on many occasions that numbers reflect the facts and the reality," says Dimitrieska Kochoska.

According to her, the economic growth in the first quarter of 2024 was 1.6 percent, whereas decisions taken in the meantime have produced effects, leading to continued growth rates exceeding three percent, with the latest data on the second quarter of 2026 standing at 4.3 percent.

Investments, adds the FinMin, are in the core of our economic policy, and they increased by 16.5 percent in Q2.

"Public debt in the Q2 stood at 58.8 percent of GDP or EUR 10.7 billion, a drop of 2.6 percent compared to the end of 2024," says Dimitrieska Kochoska.

She says these numbers demonstrate the Government's serious approach in managing liabilities while ensuring funds that are invested in development and debt repayment.

"We stand by our commitment to balance between investments, fiscal consolidation, and timely provision of funds to service liabilities. Our commitment to fiscal consolidation is clear and remains unchanged. Nevertheless, consolidation must be gradual, credible, and aligned with the economic cycle," underlines Dimitrieska Kochoska.
