Pehchevo's Kocho Racin Library hosts launch for two books on autism

Pehchevo, 12 January 2026 (MIA) — Pehchevo's Kocho Racin Library hosted earlier Monday a book launch for autism activist, psychologist and special education teacher Amela Memish Apostolovska's "The Angel Named Autism" and "The World of Autism: Leon’s Journey," MIA's Delchevo correspondent reports.

Dedicated to autism and the experience of families living with autism, the two books describe autism not as a deficiency but as a different, original way of perceiving the world, the author said.

Her aim in writing the books was to encourage greater understanding and acceptance of autistic people in society, she said.

The book launch was organized by the Municipality of Pehchevo and moderated by Kocho Racin Library director Gabriela Kostadinova. Elica Jovevska spoke about the books, which follow the life and development of Leon, a child with autism, and discuss topics such as parenting, acceptance, communication and inclusion.

In his review of the books, psychologist and psychotherapist Miroslav Pendaroski said they were "a significant contribution to the demystification of autism and strengthening public awareness of diversity."

The event included a discussion with members of the audience about the need for greater support and understanding of people with autism and their families. mr/
