Skopje, 25 October 2024 (MIA) – Our future should be based on building a strong, independent and modern judiciary that will meet the expectations of our citizens and will be in line with the European values. Rule of law is the main pillar every modern society relies on and reforms are the precondition for building trust between the citizens and institutions, the Ministry of Justice says in a press release marking European Day of Justice (October 25).

The Ministry in the press release says recently, we’ve been witnessing the need to see serious changes in the judicial system, calling them “one of the main preconditions to make progress in the European processes.”

“The European Union has been clear – there is no compromise when it comes to justice,” stresses the press release. 

“We cannot expect economic prosperity, social cohesion and stability without a fair and independent judicial system. To reform the judiciary doesn’t mean that only laws will be changed. They also include changing how the judicial institutions work. Judges and prosecutors should be attending trainings, new technologies for better efficiency should be introduced all the while strengthening control and accountability mechanisms,” the Ministry says in the press release marking European Day of Justice.  

These reforms are not only a national priority but also, they are part of the country’s EU integration bid, it notes.
