Former state attorney Fehmi Stafa arrested

Skopje, 14 December 2025 (MIA) – Interior Ministry, in cooperation with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption, arrested former state attorney Fehmi Stafa on Saturday, following a pre-trial judge’s order.

“On Saturday, Interior Ministry, in cooperation with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption, took actions within its competence following a pre-trial judge’s order, during which the person you mentioned was arrested by the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski said today, responding to a journalist’s question after the opening of the renovated police station in Butel.

He noted that additional information on the case will be provided soon.

“Today, we are proceeding in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, based on their instructions, so I am unable to give more details at this time. Information will soon be shared with the public by both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor’s Office,” Toshkovski said.

Fehmi Stafa was appointed state attorney by the government on August 22, 2018. According to a press release from the State Attorney’s Office, Stafa is leaving his post at his own request and cited personal reasons for his resignation.

Fehmi Stafa served as state attorney from August 2018 until 23 August 2022, when he was dismissed. The state attorney is appointed by the government, and the institution he heads is responsible for protecting the property and other rights and interests of the state.

Recently, Fehmi Stafa worked as a lawyer and was also among the candidates who applied in the latest public call by the Parliament for the election of a member of the Judicial Council.
