Deputy PM Fetai calls for creation of common front against crime

Skopje, 25 October 2024 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister for Good Governance, Arben Fetai, on Friday called for a creation of a common front against organized crime and corruption. 

Addressing a strategic workshop of inter-party parliamentary group against corruption, organized by NDI in Skopje, Fetai called on the Parliament, civil society and international partners to work together with the Government to deal more successfully with crime, his Office said in a press release. 

"He said that the reform agenda, adopted by the European Union, is a guide in the Government's activities in the fight against crime and corruption. In that context, he mentioned the drafting of a Register of state property and the new Strategy on strengthening the capacities for conducting financial investigations and confiscation of property for the period 2024-2028 Strategy for strengthening the capacities for conducting financial investigations and confiscation of property for the period 2024–2028, which are to prevent abuse of state property and effective confiscation of illegally acquired property," reads the press release. 

As regards improving the transparency of institutions, Fetai announced quick results in the implementation of the Action Plan on transparency, development of web pages for public institutions and training staff to maintain the pages. According to him, the amendments to the Law on free access to public information are also in the direction of increasing the transparency and accountability of the institutions.

Fetai noted that the Government is willing to actively involve the civil society in the decision-making process. As an illustrative example, he mentioned the appointment of a member from the non-governmental sector with a right to vote in the interdepartmental body for coordinating anti-corruption activities.
