Responsibility for Ramadani's escape lies with supervising authority, says Criminal Court

Skopje, 19 August 2024 (MIA) - The Skopje-based Criminal Court said Monday the responsibility for the escape of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) member Blerim Ramadani from house arrest in Skopje lies with the supervising authority, namely the Ministry of Interior.

Kosovo national Ramadani, was arrested on July 17 at the Kosovo-Macedonian border after an Interpol warrant was issued on Serbia’s request. Afterwards, he was placed in 30-day extradition detention in a Skopje jail. On August 1, Ramadani’s detention was replaced with house arrest valid until August 16. However, he escaped house arrest on August 15.

According to the Criminal Court, the judge took the house arrest decision considering the case law in identical cases, which decisions have been confirmed by the Supreme Court, adding that the MoI, namely the competent police station, is charged with supervision of the house arrest.

The MoI, political parties or experts did not comment the court's house arrest decision. Eventually, the person escapes the house arrest that is supervised by the MoI, followed by accusations aimed at the court, says the court.

Ramadani’s arrest warrant is based on Serbia’s claims that Ramadani, as former KLA member, had committed war crimes in the region of Nerodime.
