Mickoski: Gov't has plan, won't allow any fluctuations in food prices

Skopje, 22 March 2026 (MIA) – The Government is monitoring potential food price spikes in supermarkets. Sunflower oil and egg prices are currently surging. However, the Government has a plan and will not allow any fluctuations in the prices of food products which would affect the standard of living of citizens, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Sunday in response to a reporter's question on whether the situation with product price hikes is being monitored.

PM Mickoski underlined that the Government will take all measures at disposal if any unethical behavior by supermarket chains,as well as by suppliers and manufacturers, is observed.

"The State Market Inspectorate is on the ground and currently, sunflower oil and egg prices are surging. This is a price increase that is visible and significant, whereas other product prices in principle do not deviate from  previous average prices. So that part has been noted, we are analyzing it. We monitor it, calculate it and will not allow any fluctuations that will harm the standard of living of citizens," said Mickoski.

He added that the Government is not reactive, but proactive and its commitment continues.

"Unfortunately, risks are inevitable, but we will resolve them. Many things are not up to us. But based on what is up to us, we anticipate it in a timely manner and take steps accordingly," Mickoski said.
