Krushevo kicks off 121st anniversary celebrations of Ilinden Uprising and Krushevo Republic

Krushevo, 1 August 2024 (MIA) - Ilinden national holiday celebrations will kick off Thursday with “Ten Days of the Krushevo Republic” event marking the 121st anniversary of the Ilinden Uprising and the Krushevo Republic.

Ilinden cavalry including horsemen from across the country arrived late Wedesnday in Krushevo.

Delegations will visit Smilevo memorial museum and pay respect at the monument of Damjan Gruev on Thursday morning.

Later today, Krushevo citizens will welcome the Ilinden cavalry in front of St. Nikola church.

Ahead of the opening of the event “Ten Days of the Krushevo Republic,” which is held Aug. 1-10, the delegations late Thursday will lay flowers at the Vele Markov commemorative trait, the grave of revolutionary Pitu Guli, the grave of Toshe Proeski, the partisan cemetery and the crypt within the Ilinden complex.

The official opening of the national event "Ten Days of the Krushevo Republic" will take place tonight at 8 pm on Gumenje. The ceremony will feature the reading of the Krushevo Manifest and the raising of the Krushevo Republic flag.

The event is expected to include speeches by Krushevo’s mayor and president of the event, Tome Hristoski, and Minister of Culture Zoran Ljutkov.

The event celebration will be marked by a spectacular fireworks display, a diverse cultural and artistic program, which will highlight the significance of the Ilinden days and commemorate the First Republic in the Balkans.

The central ceremonies marking the 121st anniversary of the Ilinden Uprising and the Krushevo Republic will be held on August 2.

Delegations will also pay respects at the monument of the fallen Ilinden fighters in area Sliva and tomb of Nikola Karev, along with church services in the town.

The central event will take place in area Mechkin Kamen at noon, where Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski is set to deliver an address.
