Gov’t to lend fuel from national reserves in effort to solve Skopje’s public transport woes

Skopje, 21 November 2024 (MIA) - At an emergency session Thursday, the Government decided to allow the City of Skopje to borrow fuel from the national reserves in order to deal with the Public Transport Enterprise’s (JSP) fuel shortage which disrupted public transport in the capital city.

Additionally, according to the Government, on Thursday the Public Procurement Bureau decided to greenlight a procedure for negotiations for the procurement of fuel without a public call, in order to shorten the period for the procurement of the amounts required by the City of Skopje.

With this, the Government said it is closing the issue of the difficulties experienced by the city’s Public Transport Enterprise.

At the session, the Government noted the bad condition and the shortage of fuel experienced by the Enterprise, which is why it decided to join the efforts to provide a solution to the issue.

Only around 30 buses are operating in the capital city for the second day running, with citizens left to wait for hours at the bus stops in Skopje.
