Trial over Tetovo modular hospital fire scheduled for Sept. 6

Tetovo, 22 August 2022 (MIA) - The Tetovo-based court has published on its website under the court trials timetable section that the trial over last year’s fire in the modular COVID-19 hospital is scheduled for Sept. 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Judge Jordan Velkovski.

The trial is scheduled after the case over the modular hospital fire was assigned to a judge on Aug. 16 according to the Automated Court Case Management Information System (ACCMIS). After reviewing the indictment, the judge now begins the trial.

The case over the Tetovo modular hospital, following the indictments filed by the Tetovo Public Prosecutor’s Office against two people charged with grave crimes against general safety, one person for failure to act in line with health regulations during a pandemic, and the legal entity Clinical Hospital Tetovo for causing general danger and failure to act in line with health regulations during a pandemic has been assigned to a judge from the Criminal Department, the court said in a press release dated Aug. 16.

Fourteen people died in the modular hospital fire on Sept. 8, 2021. In October, following an expertise by the Ministry of Interior, the Prosecutor’s Office said the fire occurred as a result of an ignited extension cord. After a several-month investigation, the Tetovo Public Prosecutor’s Office on July 27, 2022, filed indictments to the competent court against three persons and one legal entity.
