Kumanovo, 6 July 2024 (MIA) - Around 500 delegates from the Alternativa party are convening in Kumanovo on Saturday for an extraordinary congress aimed at electing a new president, following the resignation of Afrim Gashi, who has stepped down as the party leader to assume the role of Parliament Speaker.
“We still do not have official numbers. As you know, the delegates are still signing in from branches across the entire republic. We expect to have over 500 delegates present at the extraordinary congress. Each delegate has the right to propose candidates, and for a proposal to be valid, it needs to have support from ten percent of the total number of delegates. Every delegate is a potential candidate for the party’s presidency,” the party’s vice president, Amir Elezi, said before the start of the congress.
The congress is attended by the representatives from the political parties that are part of the government coalition.
