MoI: Voting generally peaceful, without issues

Skopje, 24 April 2024 (MIA) - The Ministry of Interior (MoI) hasn’t registered any serious disruptions of public peace and order during the vote, which is generally peaceful and without issues, said MoI spokesperson Toni Angelovski on Wednesday.

According to Angelovski, since the opening of ballots the police registered two instances of people photographing ballots, one in Shtip and one in Skopje.

Additionally, around 9:20 am, in a polling station in the Radovish village of Buchim, the president of the election board reported that an individual showed his ballot to one of the observers. The local police are taking action to clear up the case, the spokesperson said.

The MoI spokesperson also said there were instances of pamphlets related to the electoral process being left on parked vehicles in Skopje’s Chair municipality, as well as graffiti in two locations in Skopje.

“In one polling station in Skopje, in addition to a graffiti, around 6:30 am, the president of the election board reported finding a detonated smoke bomb in the hallway. The police took the appropriate measures and activities and voting is proceeding smoothly at the polling station,” Angelovski said.

The Interior Ministry’ spokesperson urged the citizens and participants in the elections to refrain from staging incidents during the election day, and immediately report any disruptions of the electoral process to the police by calling 192 and 112, or at the nearest police station.
