Over 30 percent of capital investments realized in Q1 2026, 50 percent in transport sector: PM

Skopje, 29 March 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Sunday the realization of capital investments in the first quarter of 2026 stands at over 30 percent, and over 50 percent in the transport sector.

Mickoski said he is very satisfied with the construction pace of motorways and expects all deadlines for the conclusion of activities to be met.

The Prime Minister told journalists 90 percent of work on the Kichevo – Ohrid motorway has been completed.

“The realization of capital investments in the first quarter of the year is over 30 percent, and the quarter isn’t over yet. This is perhaps the historically most dynamic realization of capital investments. I think that over 50 percent of what has been planned has been realized in the transport sector. We will continue working. I am exceptionally satisfied with the dynamic regarding the motorways. I expect all deadlines to be met. The Trebenishte – Struga – Kjafasan motorway will likely be dropped from the plan because it doesn’t depend on us, but on UNESCO. However, we are looking for a way to conclude this section as well. We will find a way to once again have safe traffic between these two sections. At the moment, negotiations are still ongoing and no final decision has been made. Most likely, some changes will need to be made here,” Mickoski said.

Mickoski said the Kichevo – Ohrid motorway would be completed with funds the Public Enterprise for State Roads has borrowed from domestic banks.

“For some reason the financing from the Chinese bank was halted and we were notified about this, but we found a solution. We secured the sufficient funds to conclude this project,” Mickoski said.
