Skopje, 28 March 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Saturday he expects a productive and successful session of the Strategic Dialogue with the United States, set to be held in April in Washington D.C.
“I expect a productive strategic dialogue and productive, very successful results from this session of the Strategic Dialogue. We have a series of international activities with which we are affirming that this Government is leading a principled and strategically important foreign policy, instead of a policy of kneeling and expecting pity. The U.S. are our biggest strategic partner and we have friendly cooperation and the Strategic Dialogue that will be held at the beginning of April in Washington is a part of that friendly cooperation,” Mickoski said.
The Prime Minister said the meeting in Washington will be attended by several ministers and it will discuss cooperation in several areas.
Speaking to journalists after his address at the “Youth Vision 2030: Western Balkans, Stability & AI in Education“ event in Skopje, Mickoski also reiterated there are no plans to hold early parliamentary elections this year, noting that regular elections in 2028 remain the Government’s goal.
“I said we have no intentions of holding early parliamentary elections this year and that our goal is to hold regular parliamentary elections in 2028. I have said this on many occasions, despite the fact it would be politically beneficial for us to hold early parliamentary elections considering the polls and after the convincing victory at the local elections. But I don’t think this is a move beneficial for the country. Our desire is to hold regular parliamentary elections in the spring of 2028,” Mickoski said.
The Prime Minister stressed the Government is focused on reforms and the international agenda.
“I think we need to focus on the reforms. I came back from Brussels with good news regarding the fulfillment of the reform agenda but I will wait for the European Commission to announce them. I wouldn’t want to be the one to say it. But I am satisfied with the meetings and the coordination we held for the implementation of reforms that are a part of the Reform Agenda, they have borne fruit, and this is what we will continue to do in the future. Our priority is to deliver reforms and stability in the region,” the PM said.
