Ohrid Summer Festival to celebrate 61st anniversary with concert by Synthesis
Ohrid, 4 August 2021 (MIA) – The Ohrid Summer Festival is celebrating on Wednesday its 61st anniversary. Since its establishment, the festival has gained significant artistic value, growing into the most important music and theater events in the country. Festival director Natasha Popovikj, told a press briefing dedicated to the anniversary on Wednesday, that the rich history of the Ohrid Summer Festival reaffirms the efforts of many generations of artists to establish a success story on the global culture scene. “The Ohrid Summer Festival has a rich history filled with renowned music and theater names. Over the years, a significant number of world-famous artists have performed at Ohrid Summer Festival. For more than half a century, the festival has been offering unique events that make it one of the best in the world. Each year, the 40 festival days represent a holiday of art,” Popovikj said. Every year from July 12, through August 20, art lovers from all over the world travel here to enjoy concerts and plays, which proves that the festival offers high quality programs. Exactly 61 years ago today, opera prima donna Ana Lipša – Tofović held a concert at the Church of Saint Sophia, celebrated today as the birthday of Ohrid Summer Festival. On that occasion, the Macedonian National Theater handed the Ohrid Summer Festival on Wednesday a bronze bust of Ana Lipša – Tofović, made in 1970 by Dimo Todorovski. The festival is set to celebrate on Wednesday its 61st anniversary with a concert by Macedonian ethno music group Synthesis, which will be held at the Ohrid's Antique Theater. North Macedonia’s most famous ethno group has held over 500 concerts worldwide. It’s members are some of the biggest ambassadors of Macedonian music in the region, as well as in the world. The concert is set to start at 9 pm.
