Skopje, 2 July 2024 (MIA) - A woman was injured after a tree fell on her due to strong winds on "Kliment Ohridski" boulevard near the European University in Skopje on Tuesday.

She was immediately transferred to the Skopje Clinic, while the Skopje Territorial Firefighting Unit with three firemen cleared the area.

The woman is in her fifties and is not in a life-threatening condition, Doctor Dragan Panov from the Emergency Medical Services told MIA.

"Our team with the help of the firefighters pulled her out. She had no visible external injuries, but complained of pain in her spine and body, after which she was taken to the clinic for observation. We need X-rays to determine if there are any fractures," Panov said.

Previously, the Crisis Management Center (CMC) reported a fallen tree at the Vero Shopping Center.

CMC informs that the storm that overtook Skopje this afternoon resulted in 16 fallen trees, 3 damaged cars, 7 downed power lines, 3 damaged roofs, and 1 injured person.

Authorities from various municipalities and the City of Skopje are currently being notified and coordinated on what to do after reporting damages and potential dangers.

"CMC has received numerous reports through the single European emergency number-112 of damages and information regarding citizen’s' safety and the environment due to the storm in Skopje. Competent authorities from various municipalities and the City of Skopje are currently being notified and coordinated on what to do after reporting damages and potential dangers, following all reports and emergencies received through the emergency number. So far, the balance, according to the reports and information received is as follows, there are 16 fallen trees, 3 damaged cars, 7 downed power lines, 3 collapsed or damaged roofs, and 1 injured person," CMC reports.

Meteorologists predict heavy rain, thunder, hail and wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour today. Caution warnings have been issued during the evening and late hours in many regions, as well as careful movement near smaller rivers, waterways, and places with frequent rock-falls and landslides. ssh/sk/
