MFAFT publishes joint statement with U.S. after second session of Strategic Dialogue

Skopje, 8 April 2026 (MIA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade published Wednesday a joint statement between the governments of the Republic of North Macedonia and the United States of America after the second session of the Strategic Dialogue in Washington led by Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said the joint statement reaffirms the shared commitment to further advance the strategic partnership and promote peace, security, and economic prosperity.
The statement highlights the strengthened cooperation in key areas, including energy and the economy, defense and security within NATO, as well as cyber and digital resilience. A special emphasis is placed on energy diversification and boosting the security of the supply of natural gas, as well as enhancing the investment climate and trade relations, the Ministry said.
“The two countries reaffirm their joint commitment to strengthening defense capacities and contributing within NATO, as well as to supporting Ukraine. At the same time, specific activities are planned to advance cybersecurity through technical assistance, assessment of critical infrastructure, and the strengthening of institutional capacities,” the Ministry said.
In security, the joint statement also highlights intensified cooperation in tackling transnational crime, illegal migration, and strengthening border security, with concrete financial and technical support for the institutions.
As part of the dialogue, initiatives were agreed for the protection of cultural heritage, as well as for enhancing the mobility of citizens through participation in trusted traveler programs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade stressed that the Strategic Dialogue represents an important step forward in strengthening transatlantic ties and reaffirms North Macedonia’s role as a credible ally and partner of the United States.
