Vancho Kekov exhibition opens in Kavadarci

Vancho Kekov exhibition opens in Kavadarci

Kavadarci, 22 May 2024 (MIA) — Macedonian fine artist Vancho Kekov's retrospective exhibition of 60 watercolors opened at the Kavadarci Museum Gallery on Tuesday evening, MIA's Kavadarci correspondent reports.

At the opening, the museum's director Jakim Zimoski, Kavadarci Municipality Council chair Stojancho Ramov, and senior curator and art historian Trajche Cvetkov spoke about Kekov and his art.

According to Cvetkov, Kekov's watercolor technique was where he most excelled over his 40-year career as a painter.

He said that Kekov's was one of the most difficult art techniques of using watercolors, built on "a transparent azure thin layer of paint under which you can see the substrate of the special watercolor paper with a grainy texture."

"Kekov has full command of this technique, and in his watercolors we can notice extraordinary tonalities and a refined sense of the tonal relationships characteristic only of this painting technique. His works are a reflection of his inner drive, serenity and inner peace," Cvetkov said.

The artist was inspired by the landscapes of Vatasha, Moklishte and Tikvesh, the curator said.

The exhibition will run until May 29. mr/
