Tetovo Museum to host Macedonian Language Day celebration

Tetovo Museum to host Macedonian Language Day celebration

Tetovo, 2 May 2023 (MIA) — On May 5, a Macedonian Language Day celebration will take place at the Museum of Tetovo for the first time. Organized by Kiril Pejcinovikj Literary Club, the event will feature poetry, music, dance and theater performances.

"Starting this year, we will try to celebrate this day — which is very significant for the Macedonian people — every year," Kiril Pejchinovikj Literary Club member Mirko Vidoeski told MIA's Tetovo correspondent.

According to organizers, the event will feature university professor Marina Danilovska presenting a paper on the Macedonian language. Tetovo poets will read their poetry. Students will recite poems by renowned Macedonian poets. Actor Vladimir Jovanoski will perform a monologue. Also performing will be Tetovo Drama Studio, Lale choir, Sherbet group, and Tearce's Kiril Pejchinovikj folk dance ensamble.

The celebration aims to raise awareness of the correct Macedonian literary language usage, organizers say.

"We plan to make it a traditional event in the future. We will be focusing on the distortion of the Macedonian language, especially by public figures. We all witness reporters and national TV anchors not speaking the Macedonian language well," Vidoeski said.

"We all need to get involved, as a society, and cherish the Macedonian language," he added. mr/
