Skopje, 12 December 2024 (MIA) — Teatro alla moda, a chamber ensemble of Netherlands-based musicians, will perform baroque works at the Philharmonic chamber hall at 8 pm.
According to the Philharmonic in a press release, the baroque ensemble consists of harpsichordist Cvetanka Sozovska, violinist Lilia Slavny, and viola da gambist Joshua Cheetham. They regularly perform in the Netherlands, and their repertoire spans the period from early baroque to early classical.
This evening's concert program includes works by Dieterich Buxtehude, Georg Philipp Telemann, J. S. Bach, Jean-Marie Leclair, Antoine Forqueray, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Taking its name from Venetian composer Benedetto Marcello's 1720 satirical pamphlet "Il teatro alla moda" [The Fashionable Theater], the chamber ensemble is dedicated to performing baroque music as authentically as possible, given the historical information available to them, concert organizers said.
The members, who come from different cultural backgrounds, met at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
"Combining virtuosity and deep study of authentic baroque performance practice," organizers say, "these musicians explore and present a repertoire of various instrumental chamber ensemble combinations, playing historical copies of instruments such as the violin, flute, oboe, bassoon, viola da gamba, and harpsichord."
Teatro alla moda has performed at various venues and festivals across Europe, including Iceland, France, Portugal, as well as in Skopje and in Ohrid. mr/
