Struga celebrates World Dance Day

Struga celebrates World Dance Day

Struga, 29 April 2024 (MIA) — Struga will mark International Dance Day for the fourth time with a dance parade and an open-air concert titled "Struga Dances," MIA's Struga correspondent reports.

Organized by Struga's Bah dance studio, the parade will start at the Brakja Miladinovci Cultural Center, continue along the Drim River and through the Struga bazaar, and end with a dance concert at the Park of Poetry.

"Our dance parade is a creative way to celebrate World Dance Day," choreographer and dance teacher Tanja Bah said, adding that it was also a reminder about the physical and psychological benefits of dancing.

Around a hundred dancers will perform at the "Struga Dances" concert at the Park of Poetry, she said.

International Dance Day was created in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO.

It was first celebrated on April 29 to mark the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), the creator of modern ballet. Besides celebrating the art form, International Dance Day also aims to raise awareness about the benefits of dance and bring people together through dancing. mr/
