Siljanovska-Davkova meets Struga Poetry Evenings laureate, award winners and organizers

Skopje, 23 August 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met Friday with the laureate and winner of the 2024 Struga Poetry Evenings' Golden Wreath award, Jean-Pierre Siméon, the winner of the Miladinov Brothers award, Katica Kjulavkova, the winner of the Bridges of Struga award, Katrin Pitz, and the winner of the Young Struga award, Filipa Sara Popova, the President’s Office said in a press release. 

The meeting was also attended by Struga Poetry Evenings organizers Todorche Tasevski and Elizabeta Sheleva, as well as Jordan Plevnesh, former Macedonian Ambassador to France and translator of Jean-Pierre Siméon’s poetry. 

“Noting that Struga Poetry Evenings with more than six decades of existence and authenticity is one of the oldest and most significant poetry festivals in the world, the President welcomed this year’s rich program and highlighted its priceless importance for the presentation of Macedonian and global poetry,” the President’s Office said. 

The President congratulated the 2024 laureate, French poet Jean-Pierre Siméon, and the winner of the Miladinov Brothers award, Katica Kjulavkova, highlighting their significant literary contribution. She also congratulated young poets Katrin Pitz and Filipa Sara Popova, voicing hope that the prestigious awards will serve as encouragement and motivation for future international success. 

The President welcomed the restoration of the Young Struga award as an opportunity to promote new authors and poets from the young generation, as well as the publishing of the special edition of a selection of poems by Petre M. Andreevski, Gane Todorovski and Mateja Matevski in braille.
