Should launch discussion on voluntary military service, says President

Ohrid, 11 July 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana SIljanovska-Davkova, as Supreme Commander of the armed forces, told reporters in Ohrid on Thursday that perhaps a discussion should be launched on allowing young people to serve in the Army on a voluntary basis.

“Some young people have a desire to be a part of not only a professional army, but also to voluntarily serve in the armed forces, perhaps we should discuss this. Regardless of the decision after the discussion, what we saw gives us a feeling of security,” the President, who attended a military drill conducted by the Army’s Special Forces Battalion at the Water Training Camp in Ohrid, told reporters.

The President said a discussion should be initiated and experts should be heard on the issue.

“I think the attitude towards the Army would be more positive then, as well. The topic should be raised, the arguments heard, and we should see how people feel about the issue,” Siljanovska-Davkova said, adding that she would discuss and consult with relevant officials on the issue.
