Russian and Canadian films win top awards at Giffoni Macedonia Festival
Skopje, 13 October 2021 (MIA) – “On the Edge”, directed by Eduard Bordukov, won the best film award at the ninth Giffoni Macedonia Youth Film Festival of the jury of seniors. Receiving the award, the film’s producer Mikhail Degtyar at the closing ceremony at the Skopje-based Cinematheque thanked the young people in the country for loving the Russian film, which tells the story of fencing and the rise and fall of athletes. The jury of juniors named “Space Boy” (Belgium) by Olivier Pairoux the best film. Best short film according to the juniors is Kate Bugrova’s “The First Line” (Russia). The cadets voted for “Vacarme” (Canada) by Neegan Trudel as best film with Federico Micali’s “I like Spiderman, so what?” (Italy) winning the best short film award. According to the seniors, “First-Time Sex Rules” by Polina Kondrateva from Russia is the best short film. “The Living Sea”, directed by Ema Poposka who has been living in Hong Kong, was awarded for best film by a student. Skopje high schoolers Lazar Nelkovski and Marko Petrovski are the representatives of the Macedonian jury who will travel to Giffoni to attend the festival in 2022. The Giffoni Macedonia Festival is supported by the Film Agency and the Ministry of Culture, as well as the City of Skopje, “Giffoni Experience”, the Italian partner, and the OSCE Mission to Skopje.
