Skopje, 4 March 2026 (MIA) — The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence will host Wednesday a book launch for its new educational picture book, "Macedonian Women in Battle: True Stories," organizers said in a press release.
Co-authored by museum educator Ana Vishinova and curator Daniela Mitevska, the book focuses on the significant role of Macedonian women as hajduks, komitadjis and partisans, portraying them not as passive observers, but as fighters for human rights and freedom.
"The role and significance of women is not limited to their beauty, perseverance and defiance," the release said, highlighting the proven ability of Macedonian heroines to join the fight and shape history.
The release is an inclusive, bilingual reader in Macedonian and English, making the stories accessible to both local and international audiences.
It is the third installment in a series of educational historical books designed as supplemental material for history students, following "Behind the Great Thought" (2019), on the beginnings of the Macedonian Revolutionary Organization and "Flame and Defiance" (2022), on the Ilinden Uprising.
The picture book was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as part of its 2025 annual program for projects of national interest. mr/
