Mihajlovo Kavadarci art colony opens with Tome Mishev art show

Skopje, 21 August 2024 (MIA) — The 28th Mihajlovo Kavadarci international art colony opened at Ivan Mazov Klime House of Culture on Tuesday evening with an art show by Macedonian painter Tome Mishev, MIA's Kavadarci correspondent reports.

Mishev is an award-winning formally trained artist, a graduate from the Faculty of Fine Arts and a member of the DLUM Association of Artists of Macedonia, who has had numerous solo and group exhibitions.

According to Ivan Mazov Klime House of Culture director Julijana Turimandzhova speaking at the show's opening, Mishev's latest paintings showed "an effort to create a spiritual pontoon bridge [...] establishing the initial communication through paint and brushstrokes, without words, only through facial expressions revealing the state of the soul."

The art critic Klime Korobar said Mishev was a painter with "extraordinary dynamism, clearly seen in his brushstrokes, the passion of creating his art."

Korobar also said Mishev's paintings revealed "landscapes deeply engraved in his memory as well as beautiful carefree summer days."

"Summer is present in most of his works, with light pouring like a flood over his paintings," Korobar said. "It looks like the artist has created these works at noon, when the Sun is high and shining bright all its heat and light."

Mishev and the Mihajlovo Kavadarci international art colony mentor Vladimir Temkov also spoke at the opening.

This year's thirty art colony participants include artists from Turkey, Kosovo, Serbia, Germany, and Bulgaria. They will be creating at Villa Moklishte until Aug. 26.

The Mihajlovo Kavadarci 2024 art colony is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the local self-government. mr/
