Mickoski on talks with Bulgaria: Let's wait for them to elect political government first

Skopje, 11 September 2024 (MIA) — Nothing can happen in the negotiations with Bulgaria right now, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said in response to a reporter's question regarding the EU integration process dialogue with neighboring Bulgaria. He added that the positions of the government were widely known and he declined to elaborate on them further.

"Now is a time when absolutely nothing can happen in this process because, as you know, we have a period when Bulgaria is holding the seventh early parliamentary elections in the last three years," Mickoski said.

"Let's wait for a political government be elected there, to see if there is willingness for dialogue. We are ready to talk. We want to talk and we say this to the people we are talking to, who come from Brussels.

"As far as our proposals are concerned, they are known to the public. They have been commented on many times so far," Mickoski said.

In an Alsat-M TV interview on Tuesday, the prime minister, speaking about the constitutional changes, called for an end to the bilateralization of the European integration process.

Mickoski confirmed that he would travel to Brussels on Sept. 19 to present the Government’s proposal. He said they would not enter any processes or make any concessions naively, without a clear plan or guarantees.

He said this clear plan and clear guarantee needed to be founded on a clear message and clear achievements.

The country cannot enter any more processes without predictable conclusions, he said, noting that the government was a constructive partner and called for discussions with the government in Sofia.

"Our proposal for delayed implementation makes sense," Mickoski said. "Let’s finish the negotiations first,” Mickoski said, adding that the government was ready to discuss the issue and find a solution. mr/
