Mickoski: In past 20 months, Customs Administration sees best results in its history

Skopje, 14 April 2026 (MIA) - In the past 20 months, the Customs Administration has recorded the best results in its history, achieving the highest revenue to date, which is a clear indicator that the institution is operating with increased efficiency, organization and enhanced accountability, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told Tuesday's event at the Philharmonic celebrating the Customs Administration's 34th anniversary.

"Today we celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Customs Administration - an institution that plays a key role in the functioning of the state, in protecting the economy and in providing stable revenues for the budget. This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved, but even more so to highlight the results we see today. In the past 20 months, the Customs Administration has recorded the best results in its history, achieving the highest revenue to date, which is a clear indicator that the institution is operating with increased efficiency, organization and enhanced accountability," the PM stressed.

He added that exceeding the Mden 12 billion monthly revenue threshold for the first time is highly significant. This is a result that does not come by chance, the PM pointed out, but is the product of a systemic approach, stepped up controls and better coordination.

"These results are part of the Government's broader efforts, following 20 months of work to bring order in institutions, reduce the shadow economy and increase the efficiency of revenue collection. When we took over, we did not inherit a system that functions flawlessly. On the contrary, we found a state of chaos, disrupted processes and a seriously weakened institutional setup. A system that has been neglected and ruined for years," said the PM.

Mickoski noted it is appropriate to say that phase was now over.

"Normalization is complete. Order has been restored, rules are in place and the institution is once again operating as it should - in the service of the state and the citizens. With concrete measures, digitalization of processes and a clear commitment to fighting corruption, we have created a system that gives results. The Customs Administration is one of the most visible examples of this," Mickoski pointed out.

He thanked the head of the Customs Administration, Boban Nikolovski, for the commitment and the results achieved by the institution under his leadership.

"In addition, it is important to highlight the excellent coordination and joint work with the Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska. This partnership, this synergy, is one of the key factors for the results achieved. When institutions work as a team, when there is a common vision and a clear goal - results are inevitable," said the PM.

Mickoski pointed out that the goal is to continue in this direction, by further improving capacities, modernizing systems and creating conditions for faster and more efficient service for the economy, but also with a firm approach to preventing illegal activities.

"Behind these results is the work of all employees of the Customs Administration. Your work is significant and visible, and the contribution you make is of essential importance for the functioning of the state. I thank you for your commitment and professionalism. May this anniversary be an incentive for even stronger results ahead," PM Mickoski said, extending congratulations on the Customs Administration's 34th anniversary.
